Positioning

The Fieldbook N101 G2 is the successor to the N101. It brings a considerably brighter display and a MIL-STD-810H test, but gives up one protection class in exchange: IP65 instead of IP67.

The display measures 10.1 inch at a resolution of 1200 x 1920. The processor is listed as Helio G99, 2× Arm Cortex-A76 (up to 2.2 GHz), 6× Arm Cortex-A55 (up to 2 GHz), memory and storage as 8 GB LPDDR4 RAM · 128 GB eMMC. Weight is 1.140 kg.

Every figure on this page comes from the Fieldbook N101 G2 data sheet, where each line carries its source.

Ruggedness and standards

The protection rating is given as IP65 – under IEC 60529 that means dust-tight and protected against water jets from any direction. 15 of the 45 devices we list carry this class.

The military standard is stated as MIL-STD-810H. Revision H replaced revision G in 2019 and adds test methods for rain and icing, among others. MIL-STD-810 is not a certification but a set of test methods – which of them a manufacturer runs is its own decision.

The permitted operating temperature range is given as -20 °C to +60 °C.

Display and readability

Brightness is given as 700 nits. That puts the Fieldbook N101 G2 at rank 30 of 44 devices for which a brightness figure is documented. The brightest reaches 1680 nits, the dimmest 400.

Office monitors run at 250 to 350 nits, and a display counts as sunlight readable from around 1000. This device sits between the two: outdoors shade helps, in a vehicle or a hall the figure is enough.

Interfaces

The manufacturer data sheet lists the following interfaces. We reproduce the list unchanged, because count and assignment can differ between build levels:

Power supply

The data sheet states: 3.8 V / 10,000 mAh, replaceable without tools.

A replaceable battery means the device can keep running without a shutdown, as long as the change happens within the buffer time. In shift operation that removes the charging break.

Configuration

A configurator is available for the Fieldbook N101 G2: Yes, interactive configurator on the product page (3 groups). It lets the build be put together before the enquiry rather than settled in conversation. The options offered there follow the choices in the manufacturer data sheet.

Common questions

Is the Fieldbook N101 G2 waterproof?

IP65 – dust-tight and protected against water jets. Immersion is not covered.

What temperatures does it operate at?

-20 °C to +60 °C.

Does it have a serial port?

No. The manufacturer interface list states no serial port.

Difference to the sister model

The N101 G2 is the successor to the N101. It gains on brightness and standards testing but loses submersion protection: IP65 against IP67 on the predecessor.

For comparison: Fieldbook N101.
