Manufacturer description

The Fieldbook RC300 was built for professionals who cannot compromise on hardware. This fully rugged 13.3-inch notebook combines the computing power of a workstation with the indestructibility of a military device. Whether servicing heavy machinery, working in the oil and gas industry, or responding to rescue operations – the RC300 stays powerful even where ordinary computers have long since given up.

Positioning

The Fieldbook RC300 is not a tablet but a rugged notebook with a 13.3-inch display and two independent swappable batteries. It is the only device in the Fieldbook range with a keyboard, and the largest: 13.3 inches against 12.2 for the next model down, the P122 G2.

The two separate batteries are what really sets it apart from an ordinary notebook. Because both can be changed without tools while the machine runs, it can be operated through a full shift without ever shutting down – provided one of the two always stays seated. Added to that is a serial port in the classic DB9 form, which is hard to find on notebooks of this size. Together those two things point at diagnostic and service work where legacy equipment has to be addressed and no mains socket is nearby.

The display measures 13.3 inch at a resolution of 1920 x 1080 (Full HD). The processor is listed as Intel® Core™ i7-1165G7, Intel® Iris® Xe (graphics) [1], memory and storage as 16 GB DDR4 RAM · 256 GB SSD (further options available per the manufacturer datasheet). Weight is 2.1 kg.

Every figure on this page comes from the Fieldbook RC300 data sheet, where each line carries its source.

Ruggedness and standards

The protection rating is given as IP65 – under IEC 60529 that means dust-tight and protected against water jets from any direction. 15 of the 45 devices we list carry this class.

The military standard is stated as MIL-STD-810G. Revision G dates from 2008 and is the predecessor of the revision H in common use today. MIL-STD-810 is not a certification but a set of test methods – which of them a manufacturer runs is its own decision.

The permitted operating temperature range is given as -20 °C to +60 °C.

Display and readability

Brightness is given as 700 nits. That puts the Fieldbook RC300 at rank 30 of 44 devices for which a brightness figure is documented. The brightest reaches 1680 nits, the dimmest 400.

Office monitors run at 250 to 350 nits, and a display counts as sunlight readable from around 1000. This device sits between the two: outdoors shade helps, in a vehicle or a hall the figure is enough.

Interfaces

The manufacturer data sheet lists the following interfaces. We reproduce the list unchanged, because count and assignment can differ between build levels:

Power supply

The data sheet states: 2 independent batteries, each 2,800 mAh / 11.1 V, tool-free hot-swappable.

A replaceable battery means the device can keep running without a shutdown, as long as the change happens within the buffer time. In shift operation that removes the charging break.

Configuration

No — The manufacturer datasheet (v2) lists no specifically itemised options, the specification is fixed.

Where the manufacturer data sheet states no quantified options, we enter none. That does not rule other builds out – they are simply not documented.

Common questions

Is the Fieldbook RC300 waterproof?

IP65 – dust-tight and protected against water jets. Immersion is not covered.

What temperatures does it operate at?

-20 °C to +60 °C.

Does it have a serial port?

Yes – see the interface list quoted above.

Configure your device

No configurator: The manufacturer datasheet (Logic Instrument, dated 07 Feb 2024) lists options in a single group only (accessories: carrying case, car adapter). Too few options for a configurator.
