Manufacturer Description

RuggON Vulcan 10A The Vulcan 10A is an extremely rugged 10.4-inch in-vehicle computer designed specifically for use under the toughest conditions in logistics, mining, and agriculture. Thanks to Android 14 and a powerful Qualcomm processor, it offers a modern, AI-capable platform for intelligent fleet management.

  • Processor: Qualcomm® QCS6490 octa-core, 2.7 GHz (up to 12 TOPS of AI performance).

  • Operating System: Android 14 with Google Mobile Services (GMS) certification.

  • Display: 10.4" XGA (1024 x 768) TFT LCD, 1200 nits brightness, sunlight-readable, auto-dimming.

  • Touchscreen: Projected-capacitive touch (PCT), supports glove and rain mode; optional defroster for cold-storage logistics.

  • Memory: 8 GB LPDDR4x RAM, 128 GB UFS storage.

  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, optional 4G/5G LTE, GNSS (GPS/Galileo/GLONASS).

  • Interfaces: CAN bus 2.0B / SAE J1939, Gigabit Ethernet, RS-232/422/485, USB 3.1 & USB-C (DP Alt Mode).

  • Ruggedness: IP66 (dust and splash water protection), MIL-STD-810H, IEC 60721-3-5 5M3 (vibration and shock resistance).

  • Power Supply: 9-60V DC wide-range input, intelligent ignition management, integrated backup battery.

Positioning

The VULCAN 10A is the larger vehicle device of the range and, at IP66, better protected against powerful water jets than the 7-inch models. The Android variant sits alongside the mechanically identical VULCAN 10X running Windows.

The display measures 10.4 inch at a resolution of 1024 x 768 (XGA). The processor is listed as Qualcomm® QCS™ 6490 octa-core, 2.7 GHz, memory and storage as 8 GB LPDDR4x RAM · 128 GB UFS storage. Weight is 3.2 kg.

Every figure on this page comes from the RuggON VULCAN 10A data sheet, where each line carries its source.

Ruggedness and standards

The protection rating is given as IP66 – under IEC 60529 that means dust-tight and protected against powerful water jets. 19 of the 45 devices we list carry this class.

The military standard is stated as MIL-STD-810H. Revision H replaced revision G in 2019 and adds test methods for rain and icing, among others. MIL-STD-810 is not a certification but a set of test methods – which of them a manufacturer runs is its own decision.

The permitted operating temperature range is given as -30 °C to 60 °C.

Display and readability

Brightness is given as 1,200 nits. That puts the RuggON VULCAN 10A at rank 3 of 44 devices for which a brightness figure is documented. The brightest reaches 1680 nits, the dimmest 400.

A display is generally counted as sunlight readable from around 1000 nits. This device sits above that line and stays legible in direct sun.

Interfaces

The manufacturer data sheet lists the following interfaces. We reproduce the list unchanged, because count and assignment can differ between build levels:

Power supply

The data sheet states: Integrated backup battery (no main battery value stated).

The internal battery is a buffer, not the main supply: it holds the device up long enough for a controlled shutdown when vehicle power drops. Continuous operation assumes a fixed power feed.

Configuration

A configurator is available for the RuggON VULCAN 10A: Yes, interactive configurator on the product page (2 groups). It lets the build be put together before the enquiry rather than settled in conversation. The options offered there follow the choices in the manufacturer data sheet.

Common questions

Is the RuggON VULCAN 10A waterproof?

IP66 – dust-tight and protected against water jets. Immersion is not covered.

What temperatures does it operate at?

-30 °C to 60 °C.

Does it have a serial port?

Yes – see the interface list quoted above.

Difference to the sister model

The VULCAN 10A and the VULCAN 10X are mechanically identical. The difference is the compute platform alone: the 10A runs a Qualcomm processor under Android, the 10X an Intel processor under Windows. If existing Windows software has to keep running, take the 10X; for an Android application, the 10A.

For comparison: RuggON VULCAN 10X.
