The ZX80-EX is built for work where an explosive atmosphere can occur. On its manufacturer page (getac.com/de, retrieved 20 October 2026) Getac describes it as a mobile, ATEX and IECEx certified Android tablet for potentially explosive environments and names the oil and gas industry, the pharmaceutical and petrochemical industries, industrial manufacturing, and mining and forestry as target sectors. Among the tasks Getac lists are asset management, inspections, compliance, remote support and field data analysis. Whether use at a given site is permitted depends on the zone classification of the plant, not on the tablet alone.
Compared with the base model Getac ZX80, the two datasheet pages agree on display (8 inch, WUXGA), IP67 rating, MIL-STD-810H, 1000 nits, the QCS6490, and 12 GB of memory and 256 GB of storage. The ZX80-EX, however, weighs 780 g instead of 590 g, and its operating range of -21 °C to 55 °C is narrower than the ZX80 range of -29 °C to 63 °C. As a battery option the ZX80-EX names only the 4990 mAh battery, whereas the ZX80 also lists a 9980 mAh option, and the ZX80-EX datasheet does not name a docking connector, which the ZX80 lists. The Getac ATEX EX80 stays well behind with an Intel Atom® x5-Z8350, 4 GB of memory, WXGA (1280 x 800), 600 nits, MIL-STD-810G and 1.48 kg; the Getac UX10-EX has a larger 10.1 inch display, IP66 and 1.15 kg.
The device is not suitable wherever the datasheet names no approval: it lists Zone 2/22, not Zones 0, 1, 20 or 21, and no approval to ANSI/UL 121201 or CSA C22.2. Weight and dimensions depend on configuration and accessories (footnote VI), and so do the drop test results (footnote VII). Anyone who needs an Ethernet, USB-A or serial port will not find one in the datasheet; it names only the USB Type-C port.
The datasheet lists MIL-STD-810H, IP67 and vibration and drop resistance from 1.8 m (6 ft). Under IEC 60529, IP67 means dust-tight and protected against temporary immersion in water; the article IP protection classes explains the digits. According to footnote VII, drop test results vary with configuration and optional accessories.
The operating range is -21 °C to 55 °C (-5.8 °F to 131 °F), storage is given as -51 °C to 71 °C and humidity as 95 % RH, non-condensing. According to footnote VIII, the temperature figures were tested by an independent test lab following MIL-STD-810H. For use below -21 °C or above 55 °C the datasheet gives no operating range.
The datasheet shows the device as ATEX and IECEx certified for Zone 2/22. The marking reads, verbatim, "Ex II 3G Ex ic op is IIC T4 Gc" and "Ex II 3D Ex ic op is IIIC T130°C Dc". Here 3G stands for the category for gas and 3D for the category for dust; how the marking is read is explained in the article Reading ATEX markings.
The older German version of the datasheet (as at 03 June 2026) still gave the dust marking with the note "TBD" (to be determined); the English version of 06 August 2026 gives it without that note. The datasheet names neither certificate numbers nor the configuration that was tested. It does not say whether the anti-static protection film, which appears there under display and as optional accessory, is a condition of the approval. That should be clarified with Getac and the certificate requested before an order is placed.
The display measures 8 inch, is a wide-viewing-angle TFT LCD and resolves WUXGA (1920 x 1200). Brightness is 1000 nits with LumiBond and Getac sunlight-readable technology. From about 1000 nits a display is generally counted as sunlight readable, more on this in the article sunlight readable displays. The ZX80 and the UX10-EX also state 1000 nits, the EX80 only 600 nits.
For input the datasheet names a capacitive multi-touch screen and a dual-mode touchscreen (multi-touch and digitizer), plus a power button and 3 tablet programmable buttons. An anti-static protection film is listed under the display. The datasheet does not mention operation with gloves or in wet conditions, nor a minimum brightness value.
The datasheet lists the following interfaces. We reproduce the list unchanged, because count and assignment can differ between build levels:
The datasheet names no Ethernet, USB-A or serial port, and no docking connector, which the ZX80 lists. For vehicle use it lists the vehicle cradle and the 65 W USB-C vehicle adapter as accessories.
As standard the datasheet names Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax) and Bluetooth 5.2. Options are dual SIM (Nano-SIM 4FF and eSIM), 4G LTE, 5G Sub-6 and a dedicated GPS. According to footnote V the GPS supports GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and BeiDou and is only available in the US, the UK, the EU, Australia and New Zealand.
Network service can vary with the provider (footnote III), and Bluetooth range can drop because of interference (footnote IV). The datasheet does not say which frequency bands 4G LTE and 5G Sub-6 cover.
The datasheet names an internal battery (3.86 V, typical 4060 mAh, minimum 3950 mAh). As an option a battery with 3.84 V and typical 4990 mAh (minimum 4870 mAh) can be fitted in the battery bay; as standard a cover sits there. For charging it names a 65 W USB-C power adapter, a 65 W USB-C vehicle adapter and multi-bay chargers with two or eight bays.
The datasheet gives no battery runtime in hours and no charging time. It also leaves open whether batteries may be changed in a hazardous area and whether power adapters, chargers and vehicle adapters may be used there; accessories are not individually marked as Ex certified in the datasheet.
The datasheet names Android™ 15.0 as the operating system; Getac lists the device as Android Enterprise Recommended (footnote I: features verified by Google and raised security standards). Preinstalled are Getac Camera, Getac Input Method, Getac Driving Safety Utility (trial version), Getac settings, Google applications (Search, Chrome, Gmail, Maps, YouTube, Play, Drive, YouTube Music, Google TV, Meet and Photos), Getac Log Tool, Getac Diagnostic, and Getac Monitoring and Getac Management as trial versions with agent/SDK.
Getac Driving Safety Utility, Getac Monitoring, Getac Management and Getac OEMConfig are optional. The manufacturer page also names ARCore support; the datasheet says nothing about it. The datasheet does not name Windows for this model.
The datasheet lists the following accessories. The digitizer pen appears before the heading "Optional"; everything else is listed as optional:
As standard the datasheet names a 3 year Bumper-to-Bumper warranty, which according to Getac includes accidental damage.
780 g according to the datasheet, with dimensions of 243.2 x 165.1 x 23.1 mm (W x D x H). Weight and dimensions vary with configuration and optional accessories.
IP67, plus MIL-STD-810H and vibration and drop resistance from 1.8 m (6 ft). Drop test results vary with configuration and optional accessories.
According to the datasheet, ATEX and IECEx Zone 2/22 with the marking "Ex II 3G Ex ic op is IIC T4 Gc" and "Ex II 3D Ex ic op is IIIC T130°C Dc". For other zones the datasheet names no approval.
Both are optional only: NFC (13.56 MHz; ISO 15693, 14443 A/B, Mifare and FeliCa™) and a 1D/2D imager barcode reader in the expansion slot.
Optionally yes: 5G Sub-6 or 4G LTE, plus a dedicated GPS (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou). The GPS is only available in the US, the UK, the EU, Australia and New Zealand.
